Black you might get mistaken for Emo or Goth, I'd go very very blonde, as you can buy Roux Fancifull rinses and make it all sorts of different funky colours to wash out. Gun metal grey, pinkish silver, etc. Black just fades to brown, in the end, and light roots with black hair looks like bald spots or grey hair, whereas roots with very light blonde looks Blondie, Courtney, etc.

Since you want the punk-ish look, I'd do several different colors. Like black with red/or blonde streaks. Check out a Cosmo magazine, and look for styles you like. Show it to the person that cuts your hair and I'm sure they can give you a great look.

Blonde would be great, although the added cost of coloring, and highlights, puts this at an extra $75 to $100 per four to six weeks to maintain properly. I would get the basic cut you like in the beginning. Then maybe highlight it. If you really can afford it, go blonde.
